Almost There

Congratulations!! Elder Steele has made it to the halfway point of his mission!
ONE YEAR down and another to go...

This week (thankfully) was a whole lot less uneventful, but on the same hand pretty much nothing happened this week. We had a zone conference Wednesday. Apart from seeing all of my old friends from the other zones, it was a pretty good conference. One of the things that we talked about was using inspired questions, or in other words, asking a question inspired by the Holy Ghost to find out what someone´s true needs are. Elder Vides and I really tried hard to apply it, and we found quite a number of people and we felt a lot better about the quality of our lessons (even if we didn't have a ton). We felt really good going in to Sunday because we had a good number of people we were waiting for, but in the end nobody showed up and it was a bummer. It´s hard when we know we've done our best, we've prayed and fasted, and been obedient. I was kind of down last night but then was thinking about one of the talks from sacrament meeting which was based on faith and how there can be no doubt. I then thought about Ether 12:6
" And now, I, Moroni, would speak somewhat concerning these things; I would show unto the world that faith is things which are hoped for and not seen; wherefore, dispute not because ye see not, for ye receive no witness until after the trial of your faith."  So in the end, if we want to grow our faith it has to pass through a trial, so all we can do is trust we are doing our part and the rest will come one day.

One of those people that we were waiting for was Doris. On Friday we went to the farthest part of our area because we wanted to do something different. I had been there once on divisions with a member and Elder Vides didn´t know where any of the people that I had worked with that day about 2 weeks ago. I remembered all pretty well where everything was and it went alright. There was one more person that we wanted to see, but for the life of me I couldn´t remember which house it was. Elder Vides looked at one of them and said, "Well let´s try this one" the lady came out and told us the person we were looking for lives next door. But we kept talking to her, and she didn´t want anything. At the end we asked her if there was anybody she knew that we could invite and she said her cousin Doris. She said that last week she had gone to a "Capilla Abierta" which was a church open house activity we had, and Doris really liked it. The thing is, the person incharge lost all the names and directions of the people and references, so there would have been no way to ever find Doris if it hadn´t been for us talking to her cousin and asking who else we could teach. It is always interesting to see how the Lord has a plan and will make sure that if we are supposed to find someone, we will find them one way or another. Doris wants to be baptized but she works and studies during the week and is only at home Saturdays and sometimes Sundays. But we know one day her time will come.
